New poetry contest – First Prize £150!

July 12, 2013

TITCHFIELD FESTIVAL THEATRE proudly presents

THE TITCHFIELD SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL POETRY CONTEST

FIRST PRIZE £150

SECOND PRIZE £50

THIRD PRIZE £25

Plus various runners up prizes

To celebrate this season’s  TFT Shakespeare Festival, Titchfield Festival Theatre, with the support of Northam Books, would like to show its gratitude to poetry and poets by staging a Poetry Contest and offering generous prizes including £150 for the winning entry!

We invite you to submit a poem inspired by any theme arising from any of the Shakespeare plays performed by TFT this summer:

THE TEMPEST

TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA

RICHARD III

AS YOU LIKE IT

Just choose one theme from any of these four plays, write an excellent poem based on that theme, with a BRIEF introduction saying which play inspired the theme, and enter the contest! For example, some of the themes in The Tempest that might inspire poets include storms at sea, family relationships, colonialism, drunkenness, first love, “The Great Globe itself” and so many more!

Entry to the contest is free!

The winning poems and runners up will be announced and performed by either the poets themselves or TFT players (the choice is yours) on a very special Gala Night, on Sunday 29th September at 7.00 pm at the Great Barn itself (Mill Lane, Titchfield, PO15 5RB)!

The deadline for submitting poems to this competition is September 8th 2013.

All poems will be sent anonymously to the judging committee to ensure fairness.

Email your entries to Georgie Gulliford, PRO: georgie.gulliford@titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com

or post your entries to:

All entrants will receive confirmation that their poem has been received.

Good luck!

I had a little something to do with setting it up, so I shall not be entering this contest, but I am very happy to give it me and my blog’s full support. Entry is free, by email or post and poems are judged anonymously, so you can enter a poem from wherever you are, whoever you are.

    • Thanks for spreading the word Scarlett; have a go yourself! I’ll have a look at your work when I can but must go to bobos as I have, for me, an early morning.
